About Product

This data pack provides curvature information and height/slope data for use with the HERE road network. Commonly used in Automated Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), this dataset provides a value for the curvature of every road link in the HERE function class 1-4 i.e. the major road network, excluding the smallest residential streets. Also, the height of either end of each road link ID is provided, together with a slope percentage of that link, and the direction of the slope.

How is it used?

  • In-vehicle Automated Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which alert drivers to upcoming road shapes, and whether these require actions such as braking, deceleration, gear changes
  • Telematics applications where fleet operators can see if their drivers have been driving responsibly based on the road conditions
  • Automated insurance telematics systems e.g. Pay How You Drive policies, where drivers’ behaviour is tracked and assessed using the height and slope data, to help calculate risk and adjust premiums accordingly
  • Vehicle operators can use the data to identify sections of roads to avoid, and route their vehicles accordingly e.g. heavy trucks to avoid steep slopes in mountainous areas

Attributes

For each road link on the HERE map, the following Enhanced Geometry is provided for curvature for each piece of the road network for which the curvature data is available:

  • Unique identifier of the road link
  • IDs of the road links to which each individual road link is entered (From Link ID) and exited (To Link ID)
  • Curvature (1/Radius-of-Curvature x 106) at the node, relative to the From Link ID and To Link ID path
  • The angle, in decimal degrees x 103, between north and the road direction, at the node, relative to From Link ID and To Link ID direction
  • Latitude, longitude and Z-level coordinates
  • Slope, in decimal degrees x 103, indicating the angle of slope for the sub-segment coming into the shape point or node
  • Vertical flag, which indicates if the shape point is added to capture a change in vertical (height) profile of the road
