About Product

These datasets rank shopping venues in 15 countries and additionally provide detailed shopping catchments for the UK.

Venuescore uses a consistent weighted scoring system based on presence of leading multiple retailer brands to rank over 20,000 venues across Europe. Shopping venues include town centres, stand-alone malls, retail warehouse parks and factory outlet centres, for example.

Retailnation is the most robust evaluation of UK shopping patterns ever. The dataset provides accurate catchment definitions for over 1,000 retail venues around the UK, estimating each venue's market size and profiling the types of shoppers regularly visiting each location. Catchments are provided for retail parks, high streets and other shopping venues, with profiles of each to enable you to determine the competition for any given catchment. Retailnation incorporates data from the National Survey of Local Shopping Patterns compiled by Javelin Group to quantify catchment area spending by category.

For each shopping location, the attributes provided include:

  • The location ID
  • The trading location name (e.g. Dudley town centre or Merry Hill shopping centre)
  • The county
  • The government office region
  • The easting & northing of the trading location
  • The postcode sector
  • The number of respondents going to that location from the specified postal sector
  • The total number of respondents in the sector
  • The penetration rate (the proportion of people in that sector that use that shopping location)
  • The sector population
  • The number of shoppers going to the trading location

Venuescore

  • Dataset provides shopping venues, their scores and ranks
  • For area definitions, venues are also identified as being a concentration of multiple stores that shoppers would treat as a walkable route; meaning that separate streets could be considered part of the same venue if shoppers visit them in succession
  • Further criteria include market positioning (e.g. up or down-market), age focus, fashion focus, fashionability (traditional or progressive clothing), foodservice, anchor strength (pull of major department stores, supermarkets, etc.) and more
