mm_only_logo_400x400Mapmechanics will be continuing its partnership with The Challenge for a third year in a row, a public initiative to promote commercial acumen and charitable awareness in the UK’s youth.

The Challenge encourages 15 – 17 year olds to foster new practical skills that enhance their employability and social skills. Over the course of a week, groups of 12 undertake a series of activities, including abseiling, kayaking, hiking, rock-climbing, assisting the elderly and building a business case for a charity of their choice.

The Challenge was launched in April 2009 with the expressed goal of promoting integration in an increasingly diverse country. Young people are encouraged to work together in order to promote community cohesion, while being able to hone their commercial awareness and create new marketable experience for their CV’s.

Since 2013, Mapmechanics has been taking an active role in promoting entrepreneurialism and interest in charitable causes in the UK’s youth. Mapmechanics will play a key part in the guidance of one group this year. On the week commencing the 8th of August, the selected group will come to the Mapmechanics headquarters in West London to receive mentoring in the area of commercial awareness.

This group will deliver a presentation on a charitable cause of their choice in order to demonstrate a strong knowledge in the charity, the area effected, and to explain why this particular initiative is particularly worthy of support.

The Challenge has exploded in popularity. 2009 was the first year of the initiative, with 160 young people participating in the program. By 2015, the program reached around 34,000 participants, and this number is only projected to grow in the future.

The initiative is currently open to young people who live in London, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and selected areas in Lancashire.
