What's included
UK boundaries for digital mappin systems (or GIS) are available at many levels from country borders to individual postcodes or TV areas. Each GIS boundary is a polygon enclosing everywhere within a specific administrative unit or postcode, for example. In the UK, postcode boundaries are available at unit postcode or postcode sector, district or area level. Most products in this category are closed polygons, although some very detailed products are line features. All are supplied in common GIS formats.
How it is used
Often used to create thematic (shaded) maps showing trends and identifying gaps or hot spots. Digital boundaries add context to the map, so the user can immediately see which country, postcode or administrative area is being shown. They can also be used to group information and balance territories, e.g. allocating postcode sectors to particular sales representatives.
